FAQs
A production-ready pattern is the finalized, approved pattern that includes all fit adjustments, construction details, seam allowances, grainlines, and notches needed for manufacturing. It’s different from a draft pattern or development pattern because it’s been tested, refined, and verified through sampling. This is what you take to production.
The first sample is the initial physical prototype created from your first pattern. It’s where you see your design in three dimensions for the first time and identify what needs adjustment (fit issues, construction details, proportion changes). The final sample incorporates all your feedback from the fitting and pattern adjustments. It’s the approved version that becomes your production standard, often called a “golden sample.” You need both because the first sample is rarely perfect, and the final sample is what production will replicate.
Our services include custom pattern development, sample creation, grading, and technical adjustments to ensure production accuracy.
Absolutely! We specialize in supporting emerging designers, guiding them through the pattern and sample-making process.
Timelines vary depending on design complexity, but typical projects take between 2-6 weeks.
Yes, our grading services ensure patterns are scaled accurately across various sizes.
Most designers start with one prototype sample per style. Additional samples may be needed for fittings, adjustments, or sales presentations.
Yes. Our in-house sample studio in Los Angeles handles construction, finishing, and detailing to ensure your sample matches your design vision.
Yes. Once the first sample is approved, we can grade patterns for multiple sizes and produce additional samples as needed.

The fitting is where we review your first sample on a fit model (or on you, if you’re the fit model), assess how the garment fits, identify adjustments needed, and discuss any construction or design refinements. If you’re local to LA, being present for the fitting is valuable because you can see the garment in person, provide real-time feedback, and make decisions on the spot. If you’re remote, we can conduct fittings virtually with detailed photos and video. Either way, the fitting is where the most important feedback happens.
